PRESENTATION
Les Rigoles is an interdisciplinary project in co-creation with singer Alexandra Templier. Born of a collaborative desire to explore the question of vulnerability, femininity and sacredness on stage, this project is founded in the phenomenon that is laughter. A powerful tool for testing vulnerability, laughter also questions our relationship to the other, through the impact it has on our bodies, and the bodies of those around us. With personal artistic practices influenced by flamenco, a potential for rhythmic laughter with physical and mental triggers as well as tension and release dynamics akin to those found in the physical and humouristic language found at the heart of flamenco identity.
The eruption of laughter essentially stems from a « feminine » background: hidden, intimate, connected to the inner body. The hidden channels solicited by the phenomenon that is laughter are the same as those used for song, or even the sexual feminine energy which in and of itself is indissociable from an open and receptive spirituality, deeply rooted in the body.
From an intracorporeal point of view, the contagious aspect of laughter situates us not only in a common rapport with « release » but also in an immediate physical relationship with other laughing bodies. The presence of an audience adds a performative risk factor and central dramaturgy that is explored in this project: how to share the space that sound occupies with the audience and how to manage and modulate the explosive energy of laughter? Laughter emerges, of its own volition, and in this right, it can also not emerge. It is therefore directly related to the question of failure and of the void: what will happen to the material we are working with if no one laughs? The subversive and contagious potential of laughter is promising for digging deeper into our question of vulnerability, indissociable from the presence of another.
